Take the intellectual challenge of a lifetime and join the best support network in the world for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library.

Some call it the “writing world’s version of a marathon”: thirty days, 50,000 words and one original novel. You can join in on the fun with hundreds of thousands of people around the world during the month of November for the transformative, fun-filled challenge known as NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).

On Saturday, October 21st and 28th and Saturdays, November 4th, 18th, & 25th as well as Sunday, November 12th, the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library will host a Plot Planning Party (Oct. 21st), Kick Off Party (Oct. 28th), and weekly open writing sessions (November) in the Main Meeting Room to celebrate NaNoWriMo. Writers ages 13 years and older of all skill levels are welcome at these events.

Get ready to write your novel at the Plot Planning Party on Saturday, October 21st from 2:00 – 3:30 PM. Learn what NaNoWriMo is (and how to say it), create an outline or storyboard for your novel, name your characters, build your world, and bounce ideas off of other local writers. Still not sure if you want to participate in NaNoWriMo? This is your chance to learn more and join a supportive community of writers!

Party hard with the library before the real work begins at the Kick Off Party on Saturday, October 28th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM. Come enjoy an event with your compatriots that does not involve writing frantically for as long as you can! There will be games, refreshments, and a raffle for prizes. This year NaNoWriMo has a superhero theme – superhero costumes are encouraged!

Finally, Saturdays, November 4th, 18th, & 25th from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM as well as Sunday, November 12th from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the NaNoWriMo Writing Sessions writers may drop in anytime to write. Bring your preferred writing tools, whether it is a pen and paper or a laptop, and work on your novel surrounded by other local writers as well as all of the library's resources. Beverages and snacks for fueling up will be provided. A prize will be raffled off at each session.

These events are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

What is NaNoWriMo?

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing.

On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

To learn more about NaNoWriMo please visit www.nanowrimo.org.

Please contact the library at 541-766-6793 for more information about these events. A hearing loop system is available in the Main Meeting Room.  If any member of the public has a disability and needs accommodations to attend this event, please call 541-766-6928, allowing 48 hours’ notice for this service.
