Title: NAACP September Membership Meeting & Upcoming Events
Join the NAACP as we work for civil rights and equal justice for all!  
 

Attend the NAACP's monthly membership meeting -- Thursday, September 14th from 7-8:30 PM at Westminster House, 101 NW 23rd St, Corvallis (on the corner of 23rd and Monroe).  

  • We will be honoring Garfield Elementary School's PTA who received national recognition for their diversity and inclusion programs for which they were awarded the Jan Harp Domene Award. The Garfield Parent-Teacher Association's achievement marks the first time any Oregon PTA has been chosen to receive this prestigious award.

  • Lorena Reynolds will speak about the Changemakers Conference which our NAACP branch is co-sponsoring.

Upcoming local NAACP Events - Please save the dates!

  • Soul Food Dinner
    Thursday, October 12th at 6:30 PM
     at the Community Center at First United Methodist Church (on the corner of 12th St. and Jackson Ave. in Corvallis). This is our annual event to welcome students of color to the community. We are currently recruiting volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, and food. Please sign up to participate at our next membership meeting or send us an email if you'd like to help.

  • Freedom Fund Banquet
    Friday, November 3, 2017 at 6 PM at the Boulder Falls Inn in Lebanon, Oregon. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, featuring memorable speakers and entertainment and an amazing silent auction. If you would like to donate a silent auction item or would like to volunteer to help gather items from the community, please send us an email or join the next Freedom Fund Silent Auction committee meeting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, September 12th at the NAACP office (upstairs at 460 SW Madison Ave. in Corvallis).

Other Community and Regional Events -

  • Celebrate Southtown
    Tuesday, September 21st from 4:30-6:30 PM at Tunison Park (365 SW Tunison Ave.)
    Eat delicious food and hang out with neighbors. Let’s Celebrate Southtown and plan for a vibrant and healthy community for all!  Free food, beer, and family fun! Hosted by Willamette Neighborhood Housing Services with other interactive tables staffed by the Community Services Consortium, OSU Extension Master Gardeners, Produce for the People Farmer's Market giveaways, First Alternative Natural Foods Cooperative, Benton County Skateboard Alliance, The Bicycle Collective, Block 15, Mesa Familiar de Corvallis, Family Table, and more!  All are welcome, more information can be found here.

  • First Amendment Rights: Hate Speech, Hate Crimes
    Tuesday, September 26th at 7 PM at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library (645 NW Monroe Ave.) Presentation by Lauren Regan, Executive Director and staff attorney of the Civil Liberties Defense Center. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Corvallis and the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library.

  • Changemakers Conference
    Sunday, October 1st from 8 AM-6 PM
    at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center (725 SW 26th St.) The Corvallis Changemakers seek fresh ideas, voices, and tools from women and their allies working at the forefront of social, political, and economic activism. Walidah Imarisha is the keynote speaker and the panelists presenting at this conference include activists who have run for local and national office, managed non-profits, started businesses, initiated grassroots campaigns, worked for high-level government officials, established mentoring programs, taught classes in unique settings, organized marches, and envisioned new ways of thinking about art, activism, wellness, politics, and more. Join us!

  • NAACP Alaska, Oregon, Washington State-Area Conference - 2017 Fall Convention
    October 6th-8th at Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle North Lynnwood (20610 44th Ave. West, Lynnwood, Washington). October 7th’s luncheon will be keynoted by Seattle attorney and community organizer Nikkita Oliver. October 7th’s dinner will be keynoted by Washington Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. Special guest: Judge Joe Brown. Register for the convention, luncheon, and/or dinner today!
