Sweeping takes place once per month from April through August. Sweeping continues at twice per month for the rest of the year, including during the Fall Leaf Collection Program in November and December.

Sweeping Schedules

To find out when your street will be swept, identify the sweeping district you live in on the sweeping districts map and then check the schedule below for your district. District boundaries of 10, 5 and 7 were adjusted on May 1, 2015 to align sweeping to occur on the day after garbage pick-up.

The Central Business District is swept on Monday and Friday. Oregon State University is swept on Friday.

October through December — Every Two Weeks During Leaf Collection

Streets will be swept every two weeks during the Fall Leaf Collection Program.

How You Can Help

The City of Corvallis is committed to beautifying our city and to helping improve the water quality of our urban streams. Pollutants in the street (fluids from vehicles, debris, pet waste) are carried by rain water runoff into the storm water system. Most of the water which flows to a catch basin does not go to the treatment plant, but drains directly to a natural water source. Street sweeping helps remove pollutants that are on the streets before they enter the storm water system. Cooperation from the community is key to the success of the Street Sweeping Program. Here are ways you can help:

  • Move parked vehicles from the street the day your street will be swept, and observe the Municipal Code which prohibits placing any debris in the street, such as grass clippings, tree limbs, bark mulch, rock and garbage.
  • Remove grass or weeds that grow in the gutter to reduce debris and improve water runoff during rain storms.
  • Report abandoned vehicles to the Police Department.
  • Properly trim the trees in the park strip so the sweeper can clean next to the curb.

Leaf Collection

Leaf logo smallThe City of Corvallis works in partnership with Republic Services to collect leaves from city streets during the Fall Leaf Collection Program. The 2016 Fall Leaf Collection program begins Monday, October 24, 2016, and is scheduled to run through Friday, December 16, 2016. Refer to the Leaf Collection Program webpage or click on the logo on the left for more information about leaf collection and holiday tree collection services.

If you live on a street with curbside bike lanes, we encourage you to use your yard debris container for leaf disposal. This prevents leaf piles from blocking bike lanes. Yard debris containers are available from Republic Services and are picked up every week on the same day as your garbage collection. Please keep all yard debris, garbage, and recycling carts out of the street and behind the curb at all times. These containers can also be a hazard to bicycles and vehicles, block drainage and prevent street sweepers from cleaning the street.

Funding

Corvallis street services are funded primarily from the State Highway Fund Gas Tax. The dollars allocated to Corvallis from this source have not kept up with growth, inflation and costs for materials and services to maintain the infrastructure systems, despite efforts by City staff to maximize efficiencies. In 2004, the Transportation Funding Alternatives Task Force determined there was demonstrated and substantiated need for additional funding to support transportation services. Without an immediate additional funding source at hand, the City Council approved the Task Force's recommendation that street sweeping services be reduced by 25%. Sweeping was reduced to once per month from April through August. Sweeping continues at twice per month for the rest of the year, including during the Fall Leaf Collection Program in November and December.
