The Approved budget was then recommended to the City Council, who reviewed then adopted a budget that is basically the financial plan for the City, which incorporates the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan. It forms the basis for budget appropriations and includes any revisions or adjustments made by the Budget Commission.
Any citizen who is interested in reviewing the budget may use the link above, or contact the Finance Department to borrow or buy a hard copy. Hard copies of the budget document are also available for review at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library during normal library hours.
These are some significant steps in the budget process:
May 2, 2017
- The City Manager presented the Proposed Budget Message
to the Budget Commission. This provides a starting point for discussions. Budget Commission meetings are scheduled for public review and consideration of the document. The Budget Commission consists of nine City Council members and an equal number of citizen appointees.
During the month of May, the Budget Commission reviewed the Proposed Budget and attended department presentations. Links to meeting materials can be found on the Budget Commission webpage
May 16, 2017
- A public hearing on the Budget was held. The Budget Commission approved the Proposed Budget with amendments
after receiving public comments and deliberation. The Approved Budget was then recommended to the City Council.
June 5, 2017 - The City Council reviewed and considered the Approved Budget, deliberated and, where they determined appropriate, made further amendments which are incorporated into the Adopted Budget.
July 1, 2017 - Implementation of the FY17-18 budget. The services and projects within the Adopted Budget commence.
In addition, the Budget Commission met on January 26, 2017 for an orientation (prior to distribution of the budget document at the April meeting) to go over ground rules and other information – refer to the agenda and minutes for more details.
The City has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for many years for its budget documents. Links to our more recent budget documents and the Capital Improvement Plan are shown below:
