Property and business owners in downtown Corvallis are encouraged to take advantage of the new alley lighting program launched this month by the City of Corvallis. Under the voluntary program, the City will reimburse up to 50 percent of the cost of a light fixture, up to a maximum of $200.
The light fixtures must be installed on private property above an egress point abutting the alley. Fixtures must be energy-efficient and shielded to avoid light pollution.
The idea for a downtown alley lighting program came out of a discussion about public safety in downtown Corvallis during budget discussions in the previous fiscal year. The City Council set aside $20,000 in the current city budget to be used as matching funds for the downtown alley lighting program.
The program will operate on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are expended.
A reimbursement application packet with information about the program and how to seek reimbursement from the City, is available online at www.corvallisoregon.gov/ds
