Community Volunteers live within the City or Rural District and are assigned to a shift and station, spending time each month in the fire station with career personnel. This situation is well suited for individuals who wish to reside in their own homes while serving their community and gaining valuable and marketable skills and experience. Duties and expectations include:
- Training a minimum of 8 hours per month, usually on Tuesday evenings; Volunteering a minimum of 14 hours each month;
- Responding to a fire station or fire scene on first or greater alarms to assist career staff.
- EMT certification is not required. However, reimbursement is available for aspects of EMT training once certification is achieved.
