Intern Volunteers maintain the Locke Fire Station (Rural District Station in the Lewisburg area) as their primary residence and are trained as Firefighter/Apparatus Operators. Intern Volunteers receive free lodging in the Locke Fire Station and are eligible for financial assistance to help defray educational costs. This, too, is an ideal situation for students. Duties and expectations include:
- Training a minimum of 8 hours per month and other hours as necessary; Volunteering with other Interns at the Locke Station to provide coverage 24 hours per day, 365 days per year;
- Obtaining EMT Basic certification within 12 months of start date.
- An example of a work schedule would be 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty. Each Intern would receive every third duty shift off. This would equate to a minimum of 168 hours of volunteer time per month.
