Laurie Chaplen graduated with a BS in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. Laurie and her husband moved to Corvallis in 1998. She has worked in banking, with the City of Corvallis, and at Samaritan Health Services as a data analyst and report writer. Laurie now works for the Community Services Consortium.
Laurie and her husband have raised two kids, chickens, bees, and three dogs. She grew up with values to give back to the community. Laurie volunteered in her kids’ school PTA, became a member of Benton County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and in 2020 was elected to represent Ward 6 on City Council.
Serving on the City Council has been Laurie's greatest honor. Her goals as a Councilor are focused on long-term community sustainability in health and wellbeing. During her first term, Laurie facilitated obtaining a fully equipped CERT trailer for emergencies and new radios for the Fire Department. The old radios were repurposed for CERT. Laurie has and continues to support expansion of housing, government transparency, and bringing together groups to tackle the complex issues facing our community.
