Man Arrested for Attempted Assault with Hatchet

On April 30th, 2018, at approximately 9:55 am, Corvallis Police Department Officers were dispatched to 2010 SW 3RD St. #21, for a disturbance in progress.  The caller advised the male at this location, identified as 46-year-old Steven Anderson, was chasing someone with a hatchet and a bat.  Corvallis Police Department Officers and Benton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and discovered that Anderson had been in an argument with a roommate, at which time he retrieved a hatchet and a baseball bat from his bedroom. Anderson used the weapons to threaten his roommate outside the residence by waving them in the air, and eventually throwing them at the victim, narrowly missing him.  The victim was uninjured during the incident.

Anderson initially refused to exit the residence when officers and deputies arrived.  However, after a short time he exited the house unarmed and was taken into custody on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Attempted Assault I, and Menacing.  A bat and hatchet were recovered from the residence. Anderson was transported to the Benton County Jail where he was lodged with a bail amount of $87,500.
