The Park has been re-opened. Portions of the Summit Trail are still closed due to eroded trail conditions. We anticipate re-opening this section with a modified route in November or December.
Benton County is fortunate to contain many incredible trees. For millennia humans have been shaping the forest here in the Willamette Valley. As a result we have many ancient Oregon white oak, Madrone and Big leaf maple. In addition many trees were planted by early settlers near their home sites, and the University has developed an impressive collection of trees.
The Corvallis Benton County Heritage Tree Program was developed in order to honor these exceptional trees.
The Urban Forestry Staff execute an annual structural pruning program for young trees. This is accomplished on a 5 year cycle with the intention of pruning all young trees once every five years. Structural pruning is vital to create healthier and more structurally stable trees for the future. This program was expanded recently and will continue to grow as resources are available.
