Investing in Corvallis Facility Needs

Facilities condition ranking chart

The City Council has been working for years to make improvements to the facilities that are used to deliver City services to the public. Decades of under-investment in these facilities have resulted in buildings and public spaces that are increasingly undersized, outmoded, and approaching the end of their service life.

Step by Step

This work started in 2021 with a facility needs assessment, which examined 17 different City buildings and identified improvements that would be needed to help them keep pace with community needs and staff accommodations.

The City Council affirmed its commitment to citywide facility needs in January 2022, when it adopted the Citywide Facilities Strategy. This resource created a framework for accomplishing the most critical facility upgrades.

The strategy took shape in June 2022 with the Council's adoption of a priority phasing plan, which identified four priority projects to receive design refinement and funding discussion. Those projects are the Civic Campus, Police Station, Park Maintenance Facility, and a remodel of Fire Station 1. These are just the first four projects in a much longer list of needs — the Citywide Facilities Strategy includes a detailed description of many long-range facility projects that are operating on a longer timeline.

In October 2024, the City Council took decisive action to authorize a full faith and credit bond to fund the Park Maintenance Facility.

Also in October 2024, the Council focused on improvements to the Civic Campus and the Police Station — two critical downtown facilities that are outmoded, undersized, and lacking in modern customer service amenities. Improvements to these facilities have the opportunity to serve as investments for the broader downtown Corvallis community.

Investing for the Future

By adopting the Citywide Facilities Strategy, the City Council has made a bold commitment to no longer neglect these vital municipal facility needs.
