Need to know
Program Overview
- Funds are awarded to projects and initiatives that move the dial on climate change and promote the actions of the Corvallis Climate Action Plan (CAP).
- Green Grants are intended for community-centered projects. The leaders of these projects can be local organizations, but they can also just be a group of people with a cool idea.
- Applications are reviewed by the Climate Action Advisory Board (CAAB) and awarded by the Corvallis City Council.
- $5,000 in grant funds was available to award in 2025.
- The typical grant amount is $600 or less.
Application Eligibility
- Eligible applicants can be any entity: individuals, neighborhood associations, non-profits, community organizations, or business.
- Projects that benefit one individual or household will not be eligible.
- Only projects located within the Corvallis city limits are eligible for funding.
- Projects proposed to occur within the City’s right-of-way or on City owned property (ex. in a park or on a street) must be approved by the appropriate City department. If you’re unsure where to start, email communitygrants@corvallisoregon.gov.
- Application must be complete.
- Funds must be spent during the grant term (between the Funding Agreement/contract being signed and December 31 in the same year awarded).
Before you start
Review the Green Grant 2025 Overview Packet for more information about the program.
Read the Corvallis Climate Action Plan – Community Actions to explore how you can connect your project with the goals of this program.
Gather your materials. Consider writing sections of the application form ahead of time in a separate document. You will not be able to save your progress on the submission form and come back to it later.
Identify who will be the steward for any awarded funds.
- Grant recipients must sign a Funding Agreement to receive any awarded funds. This document is a contract with the City of Corvallis and will be sent out by City Staff.
- For grant awards of $600.00 and above, a W-9 is required for tax reporting before any funds can be disbursed. If it’s needed, staff will request the W-9 with the Funding Agreement. If you don’t think you can provide a W-9, consider asking for a grant amount below $600.00 or partnering with a local organization which can receive the funds on your group’s behalf.
- A W-9 will include a tax ID number (ex. EIN or SSN) for tax reporting of the award.
- Funds will be sent to the name and address on the W-9.

What’s next
Once an application is received, it is reviewed by staff for eligibility. Eligible applications are scored by CAAB, and the final funding is approved by City Council.
Staff will contact applicants if clarifying information is needed. Out of fairness for all applicants, you will not be asked to present on your application before it is reviewed or approved.
A project timeline is available in the Green Grant 2025 Overview Packet. Application are typically approved for funding in May. The sooner your Funding Agreement is completed, the sooner funds can be disbursed. Funds are typically disbursed in June or July.
As you work on your project, save receipts and photos.
