Parks & Recreation Director Update

Parks & Recreation Director Meredith Petit Departs City of Corvallis for New Leadership Opportunity
After nearly six years serving the Corvallis community as Parks & Recreation Director, Meredith Petit will be departing the City of Corvallis to pursue a new leadership opportunity in Washington state. Her final day with the City will be May 14, 2026.
During her tenure, Meredith helped lead a diverse parks and recreation system that includes parks and natural areas, trails, recreation programs, community centers, sports facilities, and community events serving residents across Corvallis. Her leadership supported major community initiatives, long-term investment in parks and recreation infrastructure, expanded urban forestry operations, and advancement of several key projects throughout the community.
“I appreciate the work Meredith has done for us here in Corvallis over the past five and a half years,” said City Manager Mark Shepard. “She has provided steady leadership for the Parks & Recreation Department, including through challenges such as the pandemic and the Osborn Aquatic Center closure.”
“Serving the Corvallis community has truly been a privilege,” said Petit. “I’m incredibly grateful for the partnerships, relationships, and shared commitment that make this such a special community. I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish together and confident the department will continue to thrive moving forward.”
Assistant Parks & Recreation Director James Mellein has been appointed Acting-in-Capacity Director while the City undertakes recruitment for a new permanent Parks & Recreation Director. Parks & Recreation programs, services, and operations will continue without interruption.
The City thanks Meredith for her years of leadership and service to the Corvallis community and wishes her all the best in her next chapter.
