Tree Pruning

The Urban Forestry Staff execute an annual structural pruning program for young trees. This is accomplished on a 5 year cycle with the intention of pruning all young trees once every five years. Structural pruning is vital to create healthier and more structurally stable trees for the future. This program was expanded recently and will continue to grow as resources are available.

Pruning of larger trees is generally accomplished by contractors on an as needed basis. If you have concern about a tree in the parking strip, right of way or city park, please contact the urban forester.

Tree Removal

It is unfortunate but eventually some trees do have to be removed. Whether due to decay, structural damage from storms or to make way for necessary city infrastructure improvements. The decision to remove a tree is not one undertaken lightly as it our goal to preserve and maintain the urban forest and growing new trees takes many years. However if you notice a tree in the parking strip, public park or right of what which you believe requires inspection please contact the urban forester. It may be that the tree can be preserved, through pruning, root invigoration or just some TLC from a neighbor however if a tree is removed and the location is appropriate a new tree will be planted.

Tree Planting

Please see our tree planting page for more information on how to request a new street tree.  Planting generally occurs during the winter or early spring and site are chosen the previous summer.

Education and Outreach

If you have a student group, neighborhood association or other community group which would like to learn more about our program or about trees in Corvallis please contact the urban forester, we may be able to arrange a presentation to your group at no cost to you.
