Parks & Recreation Urban Forester responsibilities include:

  • New tree planting  
  • Tree health and risk assessment, 
  • Maintenance of the urban tree database  
  • Providing a link between City departments, contractors, developers, and citizens to ensure that activities that impact trees are dealt with consistently. 
  • Consulting on tree related concerns with development on private property 
  • Advising on tree related issues in Significant Vegetation areas & Riparian corridors 
  • Issuing permits  
  • Working to increase public awareness and stewardship of the city’s trees

Parks & Recreation Arborist responsibilities include:

  • Leading the urban forestry field crew
  • Managing Citywide Structural Pruning Program
  • Ensuring staff compliance with safety standards
  • Training new field staff
  • Providing risk assessment and risk mitigation plans for trees in the public right of way and city parks
  • New tree planting
