Becoming a Career Firefighter

A career in the fire service is a rewarding and satisfying occupation.

Many local fire departments work with a community college to provide the work experience that is becoming essential to securing employment as a firefighter. In addition to a degree in Fire Protection or Fire Science, most departments require that their personnel be Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) or Paramedics. In Corvallis, the entry-level firefighter must have EMT provider licensure. This training is available at most community colleges in Oregon.
