NW 17th St Bike & Pedestrian Bridge
View this project in the Capital Improvement Program document here.
Schedule: Design 2026. Construct Summer 2027.
This project will build a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Dixon Creek, along with a paved path, to connect 17th Street on both sides of the creek. See conceptual alignment of the new path at the link below. This project is identified in the Transportation System Plan as a high priority and will provide a key connection for the 16th/17th Neighborhood Bikeway.
We are working towards hiring a consultant for assistance with the permitting and design work. The construction schedule is tentatively set for summer 2027. If we encounter issues during permitting and design that impact this schedule, then we will update the project schedule above. To receive construction updates, please subscribe under the Construction section below.
Prior to the start of construction, area residents will receive written notice with a more specific start date and contact information for questions during construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What public engagement was there in the development of this project??
a. This project was developed through the City’s Transportation System Plan (TSP), with extensive public engagement including open houses, online outreach, and community surveys. This public input played an important role in our needs assessment and helped identify PB19 as a high priority project. After adoption of the TSP, the project entered the City’s Capital Improvement Program process, where it was reviewed in public Budget Commission meetings and formally adopted by City Council.
- Was use of the existing bridge through Porter Park considered?
a. Yes, the project went through a public process, and the alternative of going through the park and using the existing bridge was well considered and discussed publicly.
- How will the existing driveways at both the north and south side of the proposed path be impacted?
a. Existing driveways will remain as they are. There will likely be temporary impacts during construction, and we will coordinate with affected property owners ahead of those impacts.
- Will there be a connection with proposed development at 1495 NW 20th St.?
a. There is no connection planned to the proposed development.
