Watershed Education

Rock Creek Camp

Rock Creek Camp is an outdoor summer camp organized by Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department, for children aged 8-13 years, that takes place in Rock Creek Park. The City of Corvallis and Marys River Watershed Council received a Coast Range Stewardship Fund grant to conduct three days of Watershed Ed on the Corvallis Watershed as part of Rock Creek Camp. Marys River Watershed Council assists with stream-focused activities throughout the camp to provide campers with hands-on educational experience focused on water and watersheds, with a highlight on aquatic habitats restoration projects that were recently completed. Groups of 40-60 campers, aged 8-13 years, spend a day on the watershed building watershed models, touring the water treatment plant, finding and identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates, learning about the natural history of cutthroat trout and exploring fish habitat restoration projects. It's a fun way for kids to learn about watersheds, water, and to experience the benefits of being outside.
