Watershed Education
Annual Public Tour: Every year, the Public is invited out to Corvallis Forest via guided bus tour. Each year, the focus of the tour changes a little bit, but the overall purpose is to educate the community about Corvallis Forest. Attendees get to visit various sites in the Forest and learn from various presenters about activities that go on there. The tour is a great opportunity to get outside and see for yourself what Corvallis Forest is really like.
2026 Tour: Date TBD ; once a date is set, a tour specific webpage will go live.
Last Year's Tour: In 2025, the 17th annual Corvallis Forest Public Tour took place the evening of June 18. The tour stopped at Rock Creek Reservoir, South Fork Water Intake and Fish Ladder, some older forest stands, some actively managed stands, and oak woodland before heading back to City Hall. The tour included background information about forest management, terminology, historic conditions of the forest, climate change planning, and more.
Rock Creek Camp: Rock Creek Camp is an outdoor summer camp organized by Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department, for children aged 8-13 years, that takes place in Rock Creek Park. (Check out the Parks & Rec website for more details on signing your child up). The City works with Marys River Watershed Council (MRWC) to conduct three days of watershed education during Rock Creek Camp. The campers participate in various fun, stream-related activities that provide them with hands-on educational experience focused on water, water quality, wildlife and aquatic habitat, and native and invasive species. This past year, they found and identified macroinvertebrates, learned about the natural history of cuttthroat trout and explored fish habitat, and even saw a giant pacific salamander, a freshwater lamprey, and plenty of freshwater mussels!
