Child Abuse Response

In September 1999, the Corvallis Police Department combined efforts with local law enforcement and juvenile service agencies to focus investigative services on improving timely resolution of criminal child abuse. The Child Abuse Response Team - CART - operated as a pilot program until January 2000, when it was formally established.

CART participants include the Corvallis Police Department, Benton County Sheriff's Office, the Philomath Police Department, the Department of Human Services (DHS), the ABC (All Because of Children) House, the Benton County District Attorney's Office, the Benton County Juvenile Department,  and the Benton County Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children.

CART concentrates on investigation of cases with victims under the age of 12. Abuse cases with child victims over 12 years old are investigated by other trained Corvallis Police detectives. Currently, CART is supervised by the Benton County District Attorney's Office.

The Child Abuse Response Team is a community policing model for addressing county-wide concerns about child abuse and child neglect. For more information, please contact Lt. Gabe  Sapp via email or by calling 541-766-6924, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
