Corvallis Police Response at Assisted Living Facility

On Thursday, March 30, 2023, Officers with the Corvallis Police Department responded to an assisted living facility in the 5500 block of SW West Hills Road on an unrelated call for service. While inside the facility, the officers noticed a water leak developing in the roof on the second floor, which was steadily increasing flow with water pouring out of the light fixtures. Shortly afterward, a large part of ceiling on the second floor collapsed and water began to gush out of the attic space into the facility. Officers, with the help of staff, were able to get residents to a safe area on the first floor of the facility away from the collapse. The Corvallis Fire Department was called to the scene and were eventually able to turn off the water supply. The building sustained substantial water damage. No one was injured because of the collapse. Officers later learned the collapse was caused by someone drilling a hole into the ceiling to install a security camera. The drill punctured a hole in the fire suppression system causing water to spew out of the pipe uncontrollably until the Fire Department was able to shut the water off
