Conversation with Corvallis' new Police Chief - September 1 @ 6:30p @ online - Corvallis' new Police Chief, Nick Hurley, began his position on June 30 and will join an upcoming City Club event to introduce himself and engage in a conversation about policing at a local and national level. West Hills Neighborhood introduces Produce Sharing with those in Need - The WHNA has introduced a new effort that helps neighbors connect with the Southtown food bank. Neighbors are encouraged to bring any extra produce in their gardens to a neighborhood site at a specific time and day each week. A neighborhood volunteer collects the produce and delivers it to the Southtown food bank. The effort uses existing programs to link the neighborhood to a rewarding and important community outcome.
What is Mixed Use (and what do I think of it)? Downtown Corvallis, with its mixture of walkable shops and residential development and is an example of Mixed Use Zoning. Combining residential uses with other uses, such as retail or office space, can reduce automobile use, preserve open space and lead to a more efficient use of land. Watch this new video (28 minutes) that explains Mixed Use and take a brief survey to provide your ideas about what our mixed use areas across the Corvallis area should look like in the future. Feedback will be used as policies on this topic are evaluated in the upcoming months.
COVID-19: What do I do if I test positive? - This is one of the most asked questions received by the Oregon Health Authority. If you have a confirmed positive COVID-19 test, you need to self-isolate for at least 10 days, even if you don’t have symptoms. Self-isolating means (1) Staying away from everyone, including the people you live with and family members; (2) Not sharing utensils or bathrooms with others; (3) Only leaving home to seek medical treatment. Census in the Neighborhoods - The U.S. Census Bureau is conducting field data collection activities for the 2020 U.S. Census between August 4 through September 3o. Workers will be wearing ID badges identifying them as U.S. Census Bureau employees. Gathering a full and accurate count of everyone living in Corvallis helps determine future funding levels for infrastructure, education, and social services. Learn more.
Corvallis Daytime Drop-In Center is seeking volunteers - The Corvallis Daytime Drop-In Center is seeking volunteers with some experience supporting low income/homeless individuals. Volunteers will help folks get fed, clothed, and otherwise assisted. Hours are flexible between 8a - 2p Monday through Friday. For more information, phone 404-825-4524 or email.
