Tyler Avenue (East) Neighborhood Bikeway Project
A Neighborhood Bikeway has been built on Tyler Avenue between 1st Street and the west side of Kings Boulevard. The Bikeway is identified as a High Priority Project (Project B39) in the City's Transportation System Plan and will include bicycle guide signage, pavement markings, speed humps, and other treatments designed to provide a safe and comfortable street for bicyclists and pedestrians.

9th Street and Tyler Avenue Intersection Project
City staff have completed design and installation of the Tyler Avenue Neighborhood Bikeway along the project span with exception of the 9th Street and Tyler Avenue intersection. This remaining portion of the Neighborhood Bikeway is considered a special project needing its own design, scope and budget. The schedule below identifies the timeline.
The city is working with a consultant to design an enhanced crossing to better facilitate people crossing 9th Street.

March 2026 Update: 9th Street Crossing 90% Design Plans
Public Works heard community feedback on this topic in 2025 and the input helped guide the updated plans.
The project will add:
- A traffic signal on 9th Street at Tyler Avenue that will be coordinated with the vehicle timing of the signals at Van Buren Avenue and Harrison Boulevard
- A center median diverter to restrict vehicle movement on Tyler Avenue, allowing vehicles to only turn right in or out
- Signals for cyclists and pedestrians to facilitate easier crossing of 9th Street
Main changes between the initial concept and 90% design are:
- The bicycle waiting area has been moved to the right side
- The center median will be concrete instead of temporary material (“Tuff Curb”)
- Bicycle signal will activate by push button and video/radar detection
- “No turn on red” electronic signals have been added
