Fair Housing Trainings 2021

The Cities of Corvallis & Albany partnered in October 2021 to offer two fair housing trainings for our communities. Recordings and materials associated with these trainings can be accessed below through April 2022. Links to handouts are found at the bottom of the page. Fair Housing 101 for LandlordsWatch the video - Federal, state, and local fair housing laws prohibit rental housing owners, property managers, and landlords from discriminating against certain groups in any aspect of residential renting activities, including advertising, screening, and management.  This 2-hour online event helps rental housing providers assess their business practices and ensure compliance with fair housing laws. The Fair Housing Council of Oregon (FHCO) offers real-world examples and guiding principles on topics such as advertising, screening criteria, reasonable accommodations, companion animals, protected classes, and criminal history. Yes in My Backyard: A Fair Housing Training Event for Elected Officials, Boards and Commissions, and City Staff - Watch the video - Facilitators from the Fair Housing Council of Oregon (FHCO) explains the role and responsibilities of jurisdictions under the federal Fair Housing Act and will strategies to encourage inclusive communities. FHCO share examples of past discriminatory land use and draw connections to how these practices have influenced how our cities look today. Additional topics include fair housing and city planning, how state land use regulations tie in, and strategies to promote the development and desegregation of needed housing types.
